1 MIN INSPIRATION: Do You Have Ostrich Syndrome?

What in the world is Ostrich Syndrome?  Here’s the story behind the video.

So, today I was reviewing some goals for 2014 to make certain I was doing the work to hit them.  The Bitter Truth: unfortunately, I was doing about 60% of what I needed to do to make the progress I want to make financially this year.  (I figure most people that are trying to inspire or educate would probably pretend to have all of their shit together, but we are all human, so I commit to being real with you.)

I found that I had absolutely made some measurable progress.  I have some great new projects in the works, have networked myself relatively well, and have set things up for growth.  But with that said, I haven’t reached out to as many people as I would have liked, and have not really gotten out there as much as I need to if I am going to hit my 2014 goals.

Anyway, I am not bringing this up to get down and condemn myself.  I review my goals weekly to be sure that I make those adjustments so I can proactively navigate myself to a schedule and work ethic that will help me hit my goals.  So with that said, moving into next week and February, I feel very good about the plan to hit those goals.

And that’s when I got to thinking, “this is something most people probably don’t do.”  I say that not because I am special.  I am very lucky and have had great mentors that taught me to do this.  Unfortunately, most people do not have mentors, and are not exposed to the philosophy behind goal setting (and adjusting).

Is this only financial goals?  Of course not.  You should have goals with your health, your relationships, your philanthropy, or any other things you want to see long term results with.  Do you have these types of goals?

95% of people don’t even set real, measurable goals.  So if you are one of the 5%, I salute you.  But of those 5%, how many hit?  Less than 1%.  Why?

Most people, sadly, develop a severe case of Ostrich Syndrome.
