Most people don’t know that, for a short time, I was in a punk rock band in high school. I loved it. I loved jumping around, playing in unison with brothers, and living the dream.
We were bad.
But it didn’t change that we loved it. And the other, I was reflecting on that time in my life, and thought about the root of punk rock, how it started, and what it represented. Then it dawned on me: punk rock isn’t a genre of music, but a state of mind. It is a response by people rejecting the status quo. Some people choose to rebel in the form of song, some in politics, some in art, and some written. What I discovered is that every meaningful change in the history of mankind began with sort of a punk-rock-ish sentiment, a feeling that change was needed.
